'You've had a good day son....'

This was a good week....

Because...
... The boys and Les enjoyed more BMXing!
... Merenia caught up with friends at Kalamunda.
... I did some early Christmas shopping at Carousel.
... we had a yummy Snacky dinner.
... we enjoyed the Aregentina V. Ireland game.
... Brace took the boys and Talea for a walk/bike ride.
... We took Family photos and had an explore around Lesmurdie Falls.
... Brace brought some new plants for our garden.
... Will got himself a new Pikachu.
... Kieran had his year 12 breakfast, final assembly and Leavers dinner.
... I enjoyed watching The Principal on TV.
... Merenia went shopping with friends and hung out at Maddy's.
... Les, Kieran, Danny and Merenia enjoyed the tense AB's semi final.... sort of.

"You've had a good day son"  is the punchline of a joke my dad used to tell about a father, his son, a bear won in a side show at a carnival and a Mini Car... it's a great joke and the one liner punchline has stayed with us for a very long time. This weekly post is about being grateful for the little and big things in our lives and celebrating success the grand and everyday kind.

This week on the web....

There's still lots going on at my place at the moment so not really any real time for reading but here's what I did see.....

Mental health benefits to delaying academic instruction for young children- This is huge, I hope the governments are listening!
“We found that delaying kindergarten for one year reduced inattention and hyperactivity by 73 percent for an average child at age 11,” Dee said, “and it virtually eliminated the probability that an average child at that age would have an ‘abnormal,’ or higher-than-normal rating for the inattentive-hyperactive behavioral measure.”
I love Kikki-K's Advent card- it goes in my Daily December every year!

I never knew there was such a thing as Dyslexia Empowerment week- I think it's great that there is! As a side note Jackie French the author mentioned in this post is one of my favourites as well.

I think quite possibly I want all these books for the kids!! I have already seen Life is like the Wind in real life- we brought it for a cousin when her Grandad was dying- an excellent book for grief and loss.

How we teach reading in Australia is different to how we teach it in NZ- I think a mix of both and a little something more is what is needed. As a mother of a couple of kids who taught themselves to read one at age 3.5 years and one in spite of Dyslexia all because they were read too daily from birth I know it doesn't have to be hard.

... Brace arrived.
... Les' interview went well.
... We adventured down to Kwinana with Brace, Layla, Danny and Talea.
... The boys enjoyed the BMX track with Brace.
... Will and I took Brace to Mundaring Weir and the Camel Farm.
... We got some super yummy ice cream from Coles.
... We had a Christmas themed dinner of Roast Pork- with crackers.
... Lots of people enjoyed the AB's quarter final.

365 2015 Week 37

This week on the web....

This is a very cool story I knew nothing of... it seems the world has come a ways on racial equality... but there's still such a long way to go.

I am a little embarrassed to admit it but I'd love to try this very funky face mask/blackhead remover. I watched the video on you tube.

The list in this post by teacher tom is fascinating- it has within it a 1979 list for school readiness... things have changed, children haven't.

The Lucky Dip Book Club - an arty response to books- sounds really cool! Check out Julie's description here and then keep an eye on the LDBC Tumblr.

That's pretty much my reading for the week.... lots going on around here!

This week on the web...

If this is the only link you ever click on then do...please head over to the Kickstarter for UNHCR in aid of refugees and then donate.

I'm keen to do the dusk walk at Karakamia with Will sometime soon.

Teacher Tom had a couple of thought provoking posts this week... All I can do is to choose, today, to be unafraid and The only way to get there is to follow.

I thought what Steve Maharey wrote for the NZ Herald was really interesting too.

Like many I loved the image of Jonathon Thurston and his daughter after the NRL final- and yeah, we do need more diverse dollies. :-)

Some cool shoes from Bucket Feet....
